Black Jills Engineers was appointed in a Joint Venture partnership with Trencon by Gibela for the construction of train manufacturing facilities in Dunnattor located in Ekurhuleni. The project was valued at appromately R400 million. The facilities to be constructed included manufacturing plant for trains, maintenance buildings and training centres.
In brief the project included the construction of the following:
- A central complex made up of two buildings housing offices, canteen, infirmary and related services;
- The five manufacturing buildings, namely a car body shell workshop, fitting and warehousing facility, a coupling and testing workshop, a filming workshop and the training facility; and
- The various utility buildings required for the operations of the manufacturing facility.
University of Venda appointed Black Jills Engineers for the development of student accommodation for 900 beds. Student accommodation is currently a challenge in South Africa and result in students resorting to inhabitable facilities that are not conducive to their learning and development. Black Jills has taken on this challenge to provide students with state of the art of facilities that would inspire and support students to succeed in their studies. Lilian Ngoyi Women’s Living Heritage
Black Jills and Trencon Construction JV was appointed by the Department of Infrastructure Development to build the six storey Lilian Ngoyi Women’s Heritage Monument in Pretoria at a cost of R152 million. The Monument, which is now complete and in retention stage, was built in commemoration of the women of 1956 who marched against apartheid.
This projects involved procurement of material and construction of the structure including fire and electrical services.
North West schools
Black Jills was appointed as Project Manager for Turnkey construction projects for three schools in NW Province. The total cost of three schools, Alabama Primary School, Mosikare Secondary School and Mokgareng Secondary school, was about R340 million. The scope of the project included

The Gauteng Department of Human Settlement appointed Black Jills Engineers for the development of Park City, which is an Integrated Human Settlement Development in Bronkhorstspruit. Gauteng’s objective is to build new cities to decentralize the congestions currently experienced in Johannesburg and Pretoria. The project is a fully integrated development that will offer living, work and play opportunities with secure environment over a total area of approximately 400 Hectares.
